EV @ The Movies: XXX
XXX, the new action-packed thriller featuring the brilliant actor Vin Diesel, is quite possibly one of the greatest movies of all time.
What other movie combines totally realistic action sequences with enchanting melodies from brilliant composers? No one but the shrewd Vin Diesel can fly over flaming bars with a motorcycle, navigate between treacherous barbed wire fences, knock out an oblivious sniper, and shoot multiple soldiers in one death-defying jump.
One suspects the script writer to be a combination of Robert Frost and George W. Bush, especially in hearing the line "the things I'll do for my country," which inspires awe not only through its lyrical, euphonious beauty but through its unrelenting nationalistic passion.
Despite all these fantastic characteristics of XXX, I believe the soundtrack is the true gem of the film viewing experience. The erudite musicians featured in XXX include the ingenious bands Hatebreed, Flaw, Rammestien, Mushroomhead, and the now-defunct Drowning Pool.
Perhaps the most fascinating scene occurs when the debonair Vin Diesel snowboards down a mountain with an avalanche closely following to the melodic strains of "Rampant Destruction," by Hatebreed. At this point of the film, one sheds a single tear of sorrow for the crushed hopes and dreams of any director who wishes to make any movie in the future; for Rob Cohen's masterpiece XXX will surely outshine any cinematic effort for decades to come.
